The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas – Day 12

Today our special thing was to decorate the dollhouse. I let the kids pick out some stuff from my Christmas trunk and gave them some lights and they got started. It was still daylight when they started but they worked on it till dark and really enjoyed it. Bethany and Tess really got into it, but all of them enjoyed it. Sarah watched but seemed to have a good time. They put trees in the house and garland up the handrails, packages under trees and lights and even something on top of the house. They were very proud of it when it was done and Bethany said it was a lot more fun than she thought it would be. She said when I suggested it that it sounded ok, but doing it was a lot more fun than she ever thought it could be. She wondered why she had not thought of it, herself. This was a real success.
When they were all done I took a little video of the house and they have watched it over and over and love their work. Small things can make kids happy.

When they were all done and happy with the way it looked I recorded this short video of it — they are all thrilled with the way it looks now and I think Bella is jealous that she does not sleep in this room with the dollhouse. Unfortunately, Claire was sick and could not help — nothing bad, just a cold and cough but was resting.

The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas – Day 11

Our special thing today was to make peppermint bark. We have never made this before and it was really easy and fun. I think the kids had more fun making it than they thought they would and they totally went overboard with the sprinkles. This definitely was an easy project and it turned out really nice. I think we may make this again sometime.
We have finished The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff and it really makes me want to cry in the end. It is such a sweet book and I hope some of you read it to your children or even to yourself. It does not seem to matter how many times I read it, my kids still want to listen again.
