An Evening Walk

Today was a messy and rainy day. I think I have cabin fever or something. I just wanted to get out and do something — take a walk, go to the farmer’s market or anything. I think this has something to do with having a new camera and not much to photograph — other than the kids inside the house. Finally, the rain stopped and the sky brightened a little and I took a few of the kids on a quick walk around the neighborhood.

Bethany took her doll for a walk with us since she got a new stroller for Christmas.

We hadn’t walked far when Bethany found a little birdhouse hidden away from the street.

Back home again. Short walk, but so nice to get out.

I guess it is time to do a one year home post on Bella and Sophia. Hard to believe it has been almost a year since they got here. Next post — their update.

What We Are Reading

This week we started reading Primrose Day by Carolyn Haywood. I guess it seems like I choose a lot of books by Carolyn Haywood, but this time I didn’t choose — my daughter did. My 17 year old remembered reading it as a young child and thought the kids might enjoy it. It is about a little girl named Merry, that lives in England during WWII, and is sent to live in the US with her cousin. It is pretty simple and light and not real exciting — but, the kids really liked it. Bethany especially liked it as she thought some of the British words that Merry used, and got teased about, when she started school in the US were funny. She was asking me again this morning what word did Merry use instead of truck — it was lorry. Today we are starting Hot Chocolate Friendship — finally, something that is not by Carolyn Haywood and also not written in the 40’s or 50’s. I do tend to choose some pretty old books.

I’m not fond of this time of year. After Christmas I am pretty much ready for spring and summer — drinking iced coffee on the front porch and watching the kids run around and play. I have a new camera and it is just not nice weather to go out and get pictures. I tried just walking around the yard the other day and getting some pics of winter, but found all of the pictures pretty unappealing. I am so ready for spring.
