The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas – Day 1

Today was the first day of our Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas — doing one special thing each day before Christmas. We took this idea from the book The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas by Madeleine L’ Engle. We did this last year and enjoyed it so much we decided to do it again this year. So, we will do one special thing every single day before Christmas and post about it. This is not a kill yourself doing stuff for Christmas, but just enjoying the season by doing small things with each other and for others. Hopefully, we will find something that we can do together each day.
Today we all went out to breakfast at Einstein Bros Bagels for our special thing. The kids loved it. Evelyn and Liam (my grandkids) came with us as well. The kids enjoyed it so much that I think we may do this more often. We also started reading our Advent book today when we got back from breakfast — ADVENTure of Christmas by Lisa Whelchel. We will be reading it each day leading up to Christmas.
I only took one picture today and that was of Bella at breakfast – she sure looks happy. I guess she thinks this was a good start to the day.

Preparing For Christmas

We have pulled a few Christmas things out and baked a little and even read our first Christmas book. We read The Twenty-four Days Before Christmas by Madeleine L’Engle first since we start our own 24 day countdown on Friday. It’s a great book and got us in the mood to start thinking of things we can do each day. Then today we started The Christmas Doll by Elvira Woodruff. We really like this book about two sisters that only have each other. A deadly fever sweeps through the workhouse where the two girls live and they flee for their lives and end up on the streets of London in the freezing cold. It really keeps the attention of my kids and though they have heard it numerous times they still want to hear it again.
