We had a very nice Christmas with so much family here. I felt everything went very well and the kids were all very excited, but actually pretty well behaved. By Christmas evening all the younger ones were playing in their rooms with their new toys.
Then right after Christmas, on the 28th, Sarah had surgery. She had her IVC filter removed. The surgeon went down through her jugular vein, through her heart and into the inferior vena cava and latched onto the filter. Then he pulled it out — leaving a small incision on her neck. The surgery was a success and she is doing well. I am so hoping that she has no more problems with blood clots. This whole thing was very stressful for me.
Then on Monday, December 31, my oldest daughter had her baby. A beautiful baby girl weighing 7 lbs. 14 oz. Her name is Reagan and she is doing great. My daughter, Emily, and I got to be there for the entire labor and delivery. It was a very special time for us and I felt so honored to be able to be there. I had planned to be there for the labor, but didn’t know I would be able to stay for the delivery. When baby Reagan was only a few minutes old, she was surrounded by so many people that love her and had waited for her to be born. When one of the nurses came into the room to check on things she stopped short — she looked shocked at the number of people there. I think I counted 18 people in the room, not counting my daughter and baby Reagan. I couldn’t believe that they let us all be there, but they didn’t say a word. One nurse actually said how wonderful it was that Meredith had so much family there. Our whole family is so happy for Meredith and her husband Ben.
