Another short video from church this morning. It was a great service and we have all of our gifts for our angel tree bought and ready to take in next Sunday. It was really so nice to see that every single angel had been taken off the tree and would be receiving gifts for Christmas.
This past week the kids have been making some decorations for our Christmas tree we put in the kitchen. I know it seems early, but we decided we did not care this year and I had no idea how long it would take to make all the stuff. It was Zola that gave me the idea to make everything that would go on the tree – slice oranges and dry them, tie cinnamon sticks together and string cranberries and popcorn. We did the oranges first as they had to go into the oven for 4-6 hours. I did have to hunt and hunt for the blood oranges – the ones that look red inside. I wanted to have the lighter oranges and the blood ones on the tree. Bethany sliced all the oranges and they really did turn out nice. We put string on them and they were ready to hang. Then we did the cinnamon sticks and strung the cranberries and popcorn. It really didn’t take as long as I thought it would. It was kind of nice knowing we made everything on the tree. It’s a small cheap, skinny tree, but I think it looks rather nice this year and the kids said it has never looked better.
We haven’t done much decorating, but have done a few things. I try not to do too much as we do most of our stuff when we do our Twenty Four Days Before Christmas. But, we have done a bit more than usual. I even wrapped over 40 gifts yesterday with the help of my oldest daughter.
We have had a great week with making all the ornaments and then we also came to an end of our study of WWll. We finished our book Letters From The Lighthouse and it was a really great book. Everyone loved it and it was a favorite in our list of books we have read this fall. This has been a good semester for school and I think the kids have learned a lot. We have a few important things coming up soon and also every one of the kids have expressed their excitement to do our Twenty Four Days Before Christmas again this December. I just hope I can think of something to do for the 24 days this year and not just a repeat of last year. I have a few things in mind.
I have a few pictures from this past week of the kids making all the ornaments. This was such a fun and easy project and I’m sure they will want to do it again next year. Oh, and my son, John, climbed on our house and put lights on it. He did it last year and was nice enough to do it again.
Everything you all do is magic! Enchanting!
That’s very kind of you to say. I have never been very creative, but my kids have helped me out in that department some.
