Autumn Party

Last weekend we had our annual fall party with all our family. We had beautiful weather and it was a lot of fun. I took lots of pictures and so I will have to post them in two different posts. My youngest grandchild, Archie, was totally in awe of all the animals and loved riding the horse over and over and over. He had zero fear of any of any of the animals. I think his pictures are in the next batch that I will try to do tomorrow.

We woke up today ready to start getting a little done for Christmas. I know it is early, but we are so ready and there is so much to do that I would like to start a little early. So, today all we did was go in the attic to check on the artificial trees and see which ones are still usable. We pulled three out to see their condition – one for the stairs, Bethany and Tess’s room and my room. We decided not to use the one on the stairs there again and might let Aria use it. My tree just looked too thin and scraggly so we are going to put it in the hall window and I am going to use a different one this year in my room. Bethany and Tess are trying to figure out if their tree is in good enough shape to use again.

So, I have a tree now in my room, but not going to decorate it or anything yet. Just wanted to make sure I could find one in the attic that would work. Bethany and Tess have theirs in their room still trying to figure if they can make it look ok. They did decide to use the multi-colored lights this year. I think I’m still going with the clear. So, we will be doing a little each week to kind of have stuff done without rushing. I still plan on doing the Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas, though. They actually still like doing it and I kind of do, too.

We are really enjoying this beautiful weather before it really gets cold. And I’m so glad we set our clocks back tonight and get an extra hour of sleep.

It’s Been Awhile

It seems that no matter how many times I tell myself I will get back to posting weekly and keeping up our online journal – I fail. This past year we have had so many changes and so much going on it seems I just don’t keep up. I mean to and I actually want to, but it seems that something always gets in the way. But, I am trying to catch up again.

We have had a nice, but very busy fall. I try to remember to take some pictures and document things and I have even fallen down on the job of doing that – and photography has been a love of mine for a long time. I can hardly believe how few pictures I have taken. But, anyway, we have been busy with school and and music and doing a few things for fall. We did make our fall simmering potpourri and it smelled so good. We made it in the crockpot and it lasted a good four days. I think we will make some more this weekend as I love the smell of the house as it simmers.

We have been reading The Secret Garden and have been doing a lot of art and writing about gardens and animals and all the different characters in the book. Evelyn and Liam are doing the book with us this year and they seem to enjoy it very much. Liam kept telling me he could not paint or draw and then suddenly today he was the one that asked me if he could draw the animal that he chose to write about. He did an excellent job and I told him it shows he actually can do things he didn’t think he could do. He actually enjoyed doing it and was rather proud of the results. It’s been nice having them do some school with us this year.

I haven’t taken many pictures this past week, but I did get a few the day Archie came to stay with me for a few hours. I made sure we got outside and he got to play in the leaves and try to help Evelyn rake. He loves a rake. He wanted Evelyn’s so bad. I definitely need to get him a little one for the next time he’s here.

Believe it or not, we are already thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love this time of year.
