The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas – Day 2

Today our special thing was to tie our cinnamon stickes together for our kitchen tree and we made hot chocolate. It was Evelyn’s idea to make the hot chocolate so I ran out and got some and we had it as we listened to Christmas music and Bethany put lights on the kitchen tree. It was a very peaceful and pleasant day. Oh, and we also continued to read The Special Guest.

I especially loved that I woke up to rain. I know that doesn’t sound pleasant to most people, but I really love to wake up to rain and have my coffee in the quiet with only the sound of rain on the house.

The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas – Day 1

Today we started our Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas as we always do in December. We started this tradition after reading the book The Twenty-Four Days Before Christmas by Madeleine L’Engle years ago. In the book the Austin family do something small every single day leading up to Christmas – something as small as putting candles in the window or opening the Christmas cards together or having dinner on special Christmas plates. After we read the book we decided to do the same thing and we have been doing it ever since. We all love it and it makes each day a little special.

Today we started off the day by reading The Special Guest – A Christmas Story by Lee and Donna Allen. It is such a good book and we all love it. It was Bethany’s request. We love to read together as a family. Then for our special thing we decided to slice oranges and put them in the over to dry them out. We could not find the blood oranges so we had to just use the navel. But, they look nice. They were in the oven until late this evening so I have no pictures of them tonight. Maybe tomorrow. I think we will need to do some more anyway and I have not given up on finding the blood oranges.

We also decided we would make fudge and Rice Krispies Treats. Tess actually made both of them herself after we finished slicing the oranges for our kitchen tree. It was a good start to our December and quiet and relaxing. The fudge is just about gone and the Rice Krispies Treats are gone.
